A pioneer in the medical & aesthetic laser device industry since working as a medical doctor in the 1980’s. This includes expanding clinical frontiers with medical and surgical lasers in the 1980’s and 1990’s & in 1989 inventing, patenting and in 1990 exhibiting the first IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) in the world, later becoming a multi billion dollar industry.
Founded & headed medical device companies in the US and EU over three decades, led M&A’s and is also licensor of recent technologies in the field of light tissue interaction.
In the last decade he has invented the TRASER technology (light amplification by spontaneous emission of radiation) for laser surgery, on which he holds 14 of his 19 US patents and has published several articles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Dr. Klaus Streubel
Klaus Streubel holds a position as Advisor to the OSRAM Board in Sunnyvale, California. He received his diploma and his PhD degree in Physics from the University in Stuttgart. For his PhD, he developed MOPVE systems and growth processes for InGaAs semiconductors. He spent two years as a post doc at the Swedish Institute of Microelectronics in Stockholm, where he was involved in the development of semiconductor lasers. In 1993, Klaus took a permanent position at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, where he received a lecturer certificate and was appointed as adjunct professor.
In 1997, Klaus switched from academic to industrial research. At Mitel Semiconductors, he developed vertical cavity lasers and resonant-cavity LEDs. He joined Osram Opto Semiconductors in Regensburg, Germany in 1999. He took the responsibility for the development of AlGaInP devices and initiated the implementation of thin-film technology for high-brightness LEDs. Later, he became the head of the Conceptual Engineering department, where he was responsible for the research and pre-development activities in the area of LEDs and Lasers at Osram OS. In 2009 Klaus took the position of the head of Corporate Technology and Senior Vice President at OSRAM GmbH in Munich. Since 2017 Klaus works as Chief Technology Advisor for the OSRAM Board and is located in Sunnyvale, California.
Klaus has authored and co-authored over 120 scientific publications and more than 100 conference contributions. In 2004 Klaus and his team were awarded with the Osram Innovation Award for his work on AlGaInP LEDs. In December 2007, he was awarded with the German Future Price of the German Bundespräsident for the innovation of thin-film LEDs. In 2010 he received the Carl-Friedrich Gauss Medal of the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft.
Dr. Bruno Acklin
Bruno Acklin is passionate about optics, semiconductors and lasers. Leading engineering and business efforts in this industry for 25 years he created a variety of innovations and products for the optics industry.
Currently he works with early stage startups as a consultant, advisor or angel investor. At Coherent till 2016, he led the engineering efforts on diode and fiber lasers components and systems. He raised funding and led a turn-around as CEO of Lumics, GmbH in Berlin. For Oxxius, SA in France he built up worldwide marketing and a US subsidiary. At JDSU (now Lumentum) in San Jose till 2006 he drove the development of all optoelectronic components, introducing over ten lasers, detectors, and modulator products into manufacturing, and as VP and GM for EDFA and Raman amps he won many tier 1 designs in the telecom industry. Responsible for Osram’s diode laser business until 2001, he established Osram as a leader in pulsed laser and diode bar products.
He earned his diploma in physics from ETH in Zürich, a Dr. Sc. Nat. in applied physics from IMT in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and researched optical interconnects as a post-doc at Bell Labs in Holmdel, USA and Siemens corporate research in Munich, Germany.
Bruno co-founded 5 companies, published over 30 reviewed papers and holds more than 15 patents.
